What consent forms do
A digital consent form within Get Ink replaces the paper form you'd normally get a client to sign before you start work. It captures their details, checks for anything that might affect the tattoo or the healing process and gets both your signatures on record.
Doing it in person
Consent forms are built to be completed together, in the studio, right before the appointment starts. Your client fills in their own details and answers the health questions, then signs on your device. Once you've had a chance to talk through anything they've flagged and answer any questions, you add your own signature to confirm you're satisfied and the form is complete.
That two-signature step is the whole point - it's not something a client can fill in from home and send over. You both need to be there. This might change in the future.
Why doesn't Get Ink store a copy of client ID?
Get Ink doesn't collect, upload, or store a copy of any client's photo ID. You check it in person during the consent process and the form simply records that the check happened, along with the details it confirmed.
We've built it this way to reduce the amount of personal data we store. The less sensitive data we hold, the less risk there is to you and your clients if a data breach were ever to happen.
If your local law requires you to keep a copy of ID (some US states, for example), that's something you'd need to manage through your own records, separately from Get Ink. Have a look at our terms and conditions for more detail on where that responsibility sits.
Only for booked appointments
Consent forms are attached to an appointment that's already been booked in the app. You'll find the option to start one from the appointment page, and it'll pull through the date, time, location and client automatically.
Walking through the form
The form runs in five short steps:
1. Booking summary: date, time, location, plus the tattoo placement and a brief description. Your client checks this is right before moving on.
2. Client details: full legal name, date of birth, email, phone number and address.
3. Health questions: quick yes/no checks covering conditions, medication and general fitness to be tattooed, plus an optional box for photography consent so you can use the piece in your portfolio or on social media.
4. Client signature: your client reads the terms and risks, then signs on screen.
5. Handover to artist: the client's answers are shown back for your review and you sign to confirm you've gone through everything with them and you're both happy to proceed.
Once that's done, the form is complete.
What happens after signing
As soon as the form is signed, you and your client are both emailed a copy with the signed document attached, for your own records.
You can also come back to the appointment page at any time afterwards and download the consent form again.
The wording used in the health questions and consent declarations hasn't been checked by a solicitor or legal team. It is your responsibility to make sure the form meets your local guidelines, licensing conditions or legal requirements applicable to your studio and location before you rely on it. Get Ink gives you the tool to collect and store consent, it doesn't replace your own legal or professional advice.
How long we keep them
We store completed consent forms securely for a minimum of six years, in line with standard record-keeping practice for this kind of documentation.
This is still early
